Good Reasons for Having a Facelift

Common reasons for having a facelift

As we age, the skin on our faces starts to loosen and wrinkle as a result, ultimately leading to a bony appearance. Creams and serums can only go so far with wrinkles. When it comes to loose, drooping excess skin, a facelift is the answer.

If you recently lost a significant amount of weight or are experience drooping facial skin simply as a result of aging, a facelift offers a solution to excess wrinkles and skin. You don’t have to simply succumb to the effects of aging. With a facelift, you can look the age you feel and bring new life to your appearance.

How is a facelift performed?

A facelift is a cosmetic facial surgery. It is medically referred to as rhytidectomy. The procedure removes excess skin through small incisions typically made in the natural folds and creases of the face. This ensures an inconspicuous recovery. The process removes wrinkles and tightens loose skin, resulting in a much more rejuvenated, youthful appearance. Depending on the case, underlying tissue may be removed or tightened as well.

Small incisions are most commonly made from the ears to the back of the hairline, where scarring will not be visible during the healing process. Excess fat and skin is removed, smoothing out the face and giving it a lift. Staples or sutures are then used to close up the incisions.

A facelift is most commonly performed under general anesthesia – by a certified cosmetic plastic surgeon – and can be paired up with other facial procedures such as blepharoplasty or a neck lift for more dramatic results.
