The Most Popular Surgeries Based On Your Age

With more and more people seeking the advice and services of a cosmetic plastic surgeon in New York City, plastic surgery has become the one of the most common surgical procedures performed in the United States. Here’s a breakdown of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, based on the age of the patients.

Rhinoplasty for teenagers

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a nose job, is the most commonly requested procedure in patients in their teen years and 20’s. This procedure can reshape the nose if it’s been damaged by trauma or is genetically unattractive to its owner. It can also improve respiratory impediments. It can change the size, width of the bridge, the profile, or nasal asymmetry.

During the rhinoplasty surgery, incisions will be made to expose the bones and cartilage of the nose (these incisions are made inside the nose to make the scarring invisible) and depending on your needs and nose anatomy, bone or cartilage may be removed. The remaining cartilage and bone are then rearranged and reshaped. A stint is put on the nose to support it as it heals. The post-surgical swelling can last up to two weeks and patients must avoid strenuous activity for several weeks post-op.

Liposuction for patients 30 and above

Most commonly performed on patients who are older than 30, liposuction removes unwanted deposits of fat that can be impossible to get rid of with diet and exercise. Inserted under small incisions, a suction tool is used to remove the fatty tissue from underneath the skin. Tumescent liposuction uses a local anesthetic where the tube will be placed and then a large amount of anesthetic solution is injected into the fatty tissue before it is removed. This is a newer preferred method because it doesn’t require general anesthetic.

Post-op, the treated area will be wrapped tightly to reduce swelling, bruising, and pain. The compression garment is required to be worn for three to four weeks. Patients can expect a significant amount of bruising or swelling for seven to ten days after the procedure.

An eyebrow lift for patients 40 and older

Most popular in the post-40 crowd, a brow lift raises the eyebrows to a more youthful and alert position. As patients age, the elastin and collagen in the skin depletes, causing the skin to loosen and shift. Having a brow lift can also decrease the creasing across the forehead and also reduce frown lines. During a classic browlift, a continuous cut is made at ear level and along the hairline. An endoscopic lift only requires a few shorter cuts in the scalp where small anchors will be placed to lift the brow.

Other procedures like blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), a facelift, or skin resurfacing are usually performed alongside the brow lift to enhance the entire face. Recovery entails facial swelling that lasts about a week as well as pain, numbness, and tingling. Patients can return to work about ten days after surgery if they are recovering well.
