What are moles? Moles are spots or irregularities found on the skin. They come in various forms and sizes and could be raised, flat, pigmented, or non-pigmented. Moles can appear anywhere on the body and may be cosmetically disturbing to the patient, particularly if found on the face. They can be present at birth, or can begin to appear over time as a result of exposure to the sun.
WHEN MOLES BECOME DANGEROUS
Moles can be bothersome because of their cosmetic appearance but are even more worrisome if they become malignant. The consequences of a malignant mole include dangerous health risks such as cancer. If a patient has moles on the face or body, or if any of the moles are changing form or color, they must seek evaluation by a qualified physician to determine whether the mole or lesion is cancerous or pre-cancerous. They should undergo regular checks on them to ensure that the moles are benign. Mole removal, whether by laser or other surgical approaches, provides a solution to getting rid of unwanted lesions on the face and body.
